i met my pal kristyn at a show at the glamurr palace in santa barbara in... 2015? i think 2016. this tape is from the third time we hung out. she had a show on kcsb at 5 am called the hardcore backdoor, and after we'd been up all night she asked me to play an acoustic set. listening back to the tape, i remember the mammoth effort it took to sing and play guitar at the same time. i was so, so tired. the whole thing felt like it was going to fall apart at any moment, and admittedly did here and there, but voice cracks and all this recording (which, incidentally, i made by connecting a clock radio to my cassette player, so don't expect maximum fidelity) is a document of a special time.

take me to the river, passionate prologue, and i will survive are all previously unheard originals from the archives. those were part of a thing that never got released, or maybe just hasn't yet and might some day. i'll be here in the morning was originally written by townes van zandt (r.i.p. american hero).
